Port Washington, Wisconsin Salmon & Trout Fishing : Fishing Tips

Port Washington , located about 25 miles north of Milwaukee , offers a similar fishery.  From spring through fall, you can expect to catch a variety of salmon and trout such as coho and king salmon as well as brown, rainbow and lake trout.

The spring months bring the coho salmon into the Port Washington area.  Charter boats do real well on these fish, although most coho will run smaller than 6 pounds during the spring.  They fight great and taste excellent, which makes up for their smaller size.  You can also catch rainbow trout, brown trout, lake trout and an occasional chinook salmon in the spring.

The summer months bring in the king salmon, which is what most people want to take a fishing charter out on Lake Michigan to catch.  Chinook salmon will rip off line like crazy once they are hooked and they will put up a heck of a fight until you get them in the net.  You can also catch rainbow trout, coho and an occasional lake trout during the summer.  Steelhead, brown trout, lake trout and coho salmon are also available in the summer time, although all of these species are going to be found in deeper water.

Fall brings in some excellent fishing closer to shore.  The king salmon are the number one priority during the fall.  Expect to catch big king salmon without having to go miles out to find them.  Steelhead, brown trout, coho salmon and lake trout are caught throughout the fall as well.
